If This Wasn't So Astounding It Would Be Amusing

Just have a read of this article and find out how an American nurse who had never treated a snake bite before became a snake bite expert on his first trip to Nepal!!!!

It is great to read of people who give of their time to assist people in countries less fortunate than theirs.

Beyond Belief!!!

Just have a read of this article and try and get your head around living in an environment where you have as much chance of bumping into a snake as we do bumping into a dog around our neighbourhood!!!

It defies belief!!!

Another Sad Example

I have just been reading this article that highlights the plight of the Nepalese people when it comes to adequate medical services in an emergency.

Another young life gone because there were no medical services to help her and when you read this article you see there are two to three cases of snake bite daily in this region - it defies belief when you read this in the comfort of your home here in Australia.

So sad.

This Is What The Nepalese People Have to Deal With

The first paragraph of this article says it all.

One person dying every two days simply because there are no adequate facilities to treat them.

Can you imagine being bitten by a snake while sleeping and then being left to die instead of being taken to a hospital?

Can you imagine the pain and agony of having to wait 5 days after being bitten by a snake before you died?

This article highlights the fact that something as simple as a ventilator could help save lives by allowing victims the luxury of breathing after being bitten!!!!

Could you imagine having to be driven 3 hours, in this case to India, just to get access to a ventilator?

The hospital in question goes on to say that last year 16 out of 54 patients died - that's almost 30% of the snake bite victims that GOT to hospital!!!

And here we are sitting in our comfortable homes with hospitals that can treat us for any illness known to man not more than half an hour away in most cases, or a Royal Flying Doctor service that we can call if we are in the country and get into trouble.

Something seems seriously wrong with this picture 8=(

This Says It All

I have been researching the issue of snake bites in Nepal since becoming involved in this blog and have come across an article by Sanjib K Sharma MD of Nepal that gives you a graphic understanding of what the people of Nepal have to deal with when it comes to snake bites in their country.

Have a read of it - it is a real eye opener!!
